As night falls in Los Angeles, there are grim fears the fires will continue to spread through the night.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department reports that of the four major wildfires in the county, three are completely uncontained.

The Palisades fire has spread over 15,832 acres. The Eaton fire is now over 10,590 acres and the Hurst fire is 700 acres.

All are at zero per cent containment.

The Lidia first is burning at 348 acres and is 40 per cent contained.

The National Weather Service warned powerful winds spreading the fires are not expected to die down substantially until Friday evening.

“If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favourable for very rapid fire spread and extreme fire behaviour, including long range spotting, which would threaten life and property,” the service said in a statement.

“There will be a high risk for widespread downed trees and powerlines, as well as widespread power outages.”
